Tiny Tour: Saturday: Ottawa

Saturday was the grand finale. Chris "bossman" Hannay hosted. Xave and Xarc played. Duh. Student teams followed. Math jokes. It was sick. (Xave was literally sick.)

Tiny Tour: Friday: Montreal

Last Friday, Xarc and Xave played the St. Denis in Montreal. I'm Gonna Fight Chu reunited. Doug and Sarah were serenaded with a song about them. It was fun. People had fun.

The Dadmom Show, Palo Alto CA

My parents are the all-time leaders in hosting Xave house concerts, AS THEY SHOULD BE, at 3. It's always fun to watch my mom claim she isn't going to do much this time, and then subsequently spend all day getting ready for it.

Larry and Marie's House, Calgary

After my two stops in Edmonton, I headed south to Calgary to play my first-ever show to an audience entirely made up of strangers. This was very cool. At my show in Niagara-on-the-Lake, an attendee named Tobi told me her brother in Calgary would love the show. So she hooked us up, and the show ended up happening. My hosts Larry and Marie invited a bunch of people over to hear some dude they had never heard of and had no connection to, and said bunch of people showed up and seemed to have a great time! (At least, to my face.)

Double-Bill with No Funny Business

Last week, I played my first double-bill show of the Dadvan Tour; with my good friends Natalia and Brent over at No Funny Business. NFB is a sketch-comedy duo who has been putting out weekly videos on YouTube for the better part of a year. This was their first ever live show, and I was very excited to be part of this momentous occasion!

Aleah and Kyle's House, Vancouver

On Civic Holiday weekend, I played a show at Aleah and Kyle’s place in Vancouver, my one and only tour stop in the ‘Couve. That is a nickname I have just made up and you have my permission to use it.

Marty and Erika's Housewarming Party, Edmonton

On Friday, I played in #EDM #ONTON at Marty and Erika's house-warming party. It was a wild party, and the wildness was only exacerbated by Marty's acquisition of a keg, making this the first-ever kegger with Xave Ruth as featured entertainment.

Mike and Alaina's Barn, Tottenham

On Friday, I played a show at Alaina and Mike's barn. Friends and family came over for the show and to have a good time on a Friday night. We set up hay bales in amphitheatre seating, which I have to imagine is the most comfortable way to watch a show.

The Brown Family Cottage, Christie Lake

On Sunday afternoon, I played my first cottage show of the summer (at least one more is upcoming.) The Brown family was there in full force, as well as several friends, dogs, and babies. One baby in particular was the star of the show, followed by the dog, followed by Gabe's late arrival (after the GABE song), followed by another small child, followed by the snacks and drinks, and finally followed by Xave Ruth.

The show featured an in-show game of Boggle, in which someone pointed out that in my song using only the letters A-G, I had failed to consider the possibility of naming one of the characters BECCA, which I am extremely ashamed of, as well as a fauna-destroying rendition of The Gopher, and an ACCORDION!! That was awesome.

Christie Lake made for a gorgeous setting, and members of the audience jumped in the lake following the show. We had previously considered holding the show with Xave on the raft, and the audience on the dock, but ultimately decided running power over water to the raft was too risky (although I still believe in and would someday like to try the canoe-convoy solution, wherein several canoes drop anchor between the raft and the dock, forming an uninterrupted path over which the electrical cables can travel.)

Thanks to the Brown family for hosting and everyone for coming out! See the pics here.
